Tavern Inn, Newquay, Cornwall

Posted on:

Kelly and Simon Hill have been at the Tavern now for just over four years and have made a positive change to the business, So much so that, pub owners, St Austell Brewery, awarded them the accolade of ‘Best Turnaround Pub 2020’.

The pub is not in a rural setting but tucked away on a big estate which very much has its own community. Being about a mile and a half away from the main town, means that the pub relies on the local trade from families and the community, which is why the couple made a request for some financial help for a community play area.

Project Summary:

To prepare the ground and purchase some play equipment that could be erected in the secure pub garden for the children of both the local customers and community/ families to use under the correct supervision.

Outcomes so far:

Due to the Covid-19 lockdown the play area has only just starting to be used in a limited way.

Lessons to Learn:

Kelly and Simon engaged local businesses to prepare the ground work; supply and erect the play equipment; and to finish off the project with some fencing to keep the money spent within the local economy.

Project Costs:

Contribution from Licensee £3,068
Community Services Grant from Pub is The Hub £3,000
Total Project Costs £6,068
